Wednesday Talk: Beautiful People

heart 1I woke up this morning with a question on my mind – “What makes people beautiful?”

Just to clarify, I don’t mean the outward appearance of a person, nor do I mean the glitz and glam beauty of a movie star.

In my humble opinion, there are many types of “beautiful” in this world, and I am grateful to be able to witness all kinds of beauty on a daily basis.

For the sake of simplicity, I would like to share 3 major factors to what makes people truly beautiful in my eyes.

1. Positive Attitude
In the midst of all the negativity and chaos going on around us this day in age, an attitude that emanates positive energy truly shines bright. It’s so easy for people to get wrapped up in all the sad, cruel, nasty happenings of this world. I’m not saying it’s easy to remain positive at all times. At the end of the day, however, those who choose to see the bright side of things inspire me to continue my journey with a positive outlook. It’s not easy, trust me. I’ve been through many downs in life myself. I just personally choose light over darkness.

2. Giving, rather than receiving
There is something so beautiful about people who give and genuinely love to give without expecting anything in return. There have been plenty of moments in my life when I have thought “What’s the point of giving when the receiver is ungrateful?” At the end of the day I realize, I’d rather still give to an ungrateful person than not to have given at all. Why not give when I’ve been blessed with the ability to give? My hope is that one day, the ungrateful receiver will learn to appreciate what others have done for them in the past and start learning to give as well be it time, love, support or even something tangible,

3. Praying people
How many times in your lives have you felt helpless, hopeless, dying to help someone out in need, but there just simply wasn’t a way to assist them? Especially for those you love and cherish? When I see my family, friends, or even strangers hurting, and there’s nothing I can do to help relieve their burden, I put my hands together and pray. Praying not only for yourself, but for others is just so powerful to me. I have witnessed countless beautiful people getting on their knees and putting their hands together in prayer for those they love, care for, and for those in need. Praying people never cease to amaze me with their inner beauty.

I have seen and have crossed paths with so many beautiful people who smile through their tears no matter how difficult life may seem, give their last bit of strength to those reaching out for help, and pray for others selflessly. It is my hope to continue witnessing true beauty in people around me.

I strive to become a beautiful person every day, and I hope you will join me on my journey to becoming and remaining true to my own beauty, both inside and outside.

What are some attributes you see in “beautiful people”? How do you plan on becoming beautiful more and more each day? Please do share!

New! Nyx Cosmetics, eos Lip Balm, Vaseline Lip Therapy

Today was an extraordinary Thursday full of laughter, funky dance moves (don’t ask/don’t judge, please ;), great food, and even greater company.

Thanks to one of my favorite people in the whole wide world (Stefanie), I had some pretty delicious sushi for lunch in Bolingbrook (a suburb of Chicago) and got to enjoy the sunshine a bit even though it was crazy freezing. After lunch, Stefanie wanted to stop by Target to get a new pair of sunglasses. While we were there, I just HAD to take a stroll down the beauty products section…especially because I heard Target is carrying Nyx Cosmetics now. WOOHOO!

Anyway, in true ME fashion, I was immediately drawn to new lip care goodies, AND of course, I just had to pick up a few things! (I actually needed new lip balm/chapstick – I promise!)

Here are the fun lippies I got my hands on today + 1 eyeliner:

eos Lip Balm (Medicated) – Tangerine

eos tangerine

Vaseline Lip Therapy – Rosy Lips

Nyx Cosmetics Butter Lip Gloss – Creme Brulee

Nyx Cosmetics Glam Liner Aqua Luxe – Glam Purple

Immediately after getting in my car, I tried on all 4 products. Yes, one on top of the other. Needless to say, I am in LOVE with them all!

The eos lip balm has an amazing scent – a mixture of sweet tangerines and a hint of juicy fruit gum. The Vaseline Lip Therapy is silky smooth on the lips, and the rosy tint gives the look of a healthy, soft pout. The Nyx Cosmetics Butter Lip Gloss in Creme Brulee may just be my new favorite lip gloss! It is not gooey nor heavily sticky, and lasts a long time without having to reapply which is always a huge plus for me. As for the 1 non lip product, the Nyx Glam Liner in Glam Purple makes my dark brown eyes pop. I cannot wait to try the liner out with a full on made up face for the perfect amount of sparkle and glam!

As you can see, I am a sucker for lip products. I always have been and always will be – a slight obsession with all things lip gloss, lip balm, lipstick – you name it, I love it.

What are some of your beauty/makeup obsessions? If you have a product you cannot live without, please do share!

New! Napoleon Perdis, Benefit & Nyx Cosmetics

I always enjoy going into stores either A) when they first open or B) when they have about an hour until closing time. One of the main reasons why I love going during these times is because there are less people in the stores, and generally speaking, the store associates are much more willing to assist you one on one with minimal distraction.

I had some time to spare last night after work which just so happened to be about an hour before ULTA Beauty ( closes and decided I should pay them a visit. The associate (Isabelle) was such a sweetheart and helped me find a few fun things to exchange for the goodies I had purchased with a Christmas gift card.

Anyway, let’s cut to the chase. I exchanged my Tarte Cosmetics Amazonian Clay Foundation and Concealer for the following goodies:

1. Napoleon Perdis Cosmetics Stick Foundation in Look 3 (check out more of Napoleon Perdis products here:

2. Benefit Cosmetics BADgal Waterproof Mascara (

3. Nyx Cosmetics Above & Beyond Full Coverage Concealer in CJ04 Beige (

Once I have used the products enough to get a feel for whether I enjoy them or not, there will be a detailed review on each item.

Nyx Cosmetics has always been great to me, and as for Benefit Cosmetics, I have a few staple products I thoroughly enjoy from their line. Napoleon Perdis Cosmetics is a fairly new interest of mine as of last year, and I cannot wait to try more of their products. (There was another foundation I really wanted to get from them – China Doll Foundation – but I couldn’t justify spending $50 for a rather small sized squeeze tube…even if it’s with a Christmas gift card).

Overall, the reviews I’ve read online and have heard from other makeup artists have been really good for all 3 items. I am looking forward to having good news to share with you guys after I give them a go!

Oh, and just to clarify, there was nothing wrong with the Tarte products I had initially purchased. I just could not get a good color match for the Tarte Cosmetics Amazonian Clay Foundation, and as for the concealer, I wanted to try the concealer/foundation combo together. For now, they will remain on my Wish List.

Have you guys tried any of the above mentioned goodies? If so, what are your thoughts? Please do share!

New Year, New Me…well, not really, but kind of. :)
